Case studies

Design of Camera Lens

We perform lens design for camera applications and deliver the design results.

Based on the specifications defined by our customers, we perform lens design for the intended camera application. In lens design, we determine the lens geometry and materials to meet the MTF requirements, which serve as key indicators of image resolution. At the same time, we carry out the design to satisfy various constraints such as field of view, F-number, focal length, back focus, distortion, and vignetting.

Ghost analysis is also an important aspect of the design process. “Ghost” is one of the stray light that reaches the camera sensor after multiple reflections on lens surfaces, which can degrade image quality. To reduce the ghost signal, we optimize the lens geometry or the lens coating.
In some cases, the flare which is one of the stray light may originate from reflections on the inner barrel surfaces. In this case, we incorporate baffles or “light-cutting lines” into the lens barrel to suppress it.

We optimize performance through optical design that includes not only the lenses but also the lens barrel.

For lens design, we use OpTaliX; for ghost analysis, we use OpTaliX or FRED; and for lens barrel design, we use Autodesk Fusion. We deliver the design results in the format requested by the customer, such as lens data (OpTaliXformat / Excel format) and CAD data (DXF / STEP).

Development of Lighting System

We provide comprehensive services including lens design for lighting system, LED selection, dimming circuit design, housing design for assembly, and prototyping of all these components.

We develop lighting system based on specifications provided by our customers.
An example of the development process is as follows:

During the conceptual design phase, we select LEDs, determine the optical configuration, plan the circuit layout, and visualize the mechanical form based on the specifications.

In the detailed design phase, we design lenses according to the emission characteristics of the selected LEDs, controlling light distribution and illuminance uniformity. We also design the circuits required for LED dimming control and develop the mechanical components necessary for assembling these parts. High-power LEDs generate heat, making thermal management a critical concern. We perform thermal design, including LED selection based on temperature constraints, and optimize the PCB, mechanical structure, and selection of thermal adhesives to enhance heat spreading.

In the prototyping phase, we conduct small-scale production based on the detailed design results to verify our design hypotheses.

Through this approach, we are able to develop fully integrated optical systems in a one-stop process and deliver functional prototypes.

Consulting for Product Development

We work together with our customers on product development from the planning stage.

Developing products that handle light requires specialized knowledge.

During the product planning stage, the focus is often on the value the product will provide, but the feasibility study is crucial for successful commercialization. By evaluating feasibility in the upstream stages, technical risks can be reduced, which in turn helps lower development costs.

However, assessing feasibility involves specialized and extensive knowledge and experience, including physical calculations, technical constraints, and supply chain limitations, making it a challenging task.

To address this, we offer consulting services that leverage the optical expertise we have cultivated through our business in the development, design, and prototyping of optical system. For example, we can integrate into your development process to provide proposals on specifications and structures from an optical engineer’s perspective, perform specialized calculations and verifications, or create concrete conceptual designs. We can also provide advice to your engineers from an optical standpoint as needed.

4.Client Order

If you decide to proceed with detailed design, please place your order. For consulting services, work begins after the order is placed.

5.Production / Implementation

Design and prototyping will be carried out based on the delivery specifications. For consulting services, the work will be executed according to the agreed plan.

6.Delivery

We will perform a final inspection and deliver the design results or prototypes. For consulting services, the deliverables such as reports will be provided.

7.Client Acceptance
